Residents or business owners interested in being licensed to carry firearms may apply to the Stockbridge Police Department after successfully completing a Basic Firearms Safety Course, as defined in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 140, Section 131p and 515 CMR 3.00. Most area sportsman’s clubs and some area police departments offer the class. First time license holders are required to fill out and submit a four page application that can be picked up at the police department. A background check is conducted, for criminal record and, depending on the license type, for suitability. The Stockbridge Police Department uses digital photographs for the licenses and will provide that service at no cost to the license holder. Fingerprinting is required for all first time license applicants.

Residents or business owners who need to renew their license must submit the four page application, be digitally photographed, and have a fingerprint scanned to complete the process.

Additional information and all forms can be found at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board, Firearms Records Bureau and Firearms Forms and Applications.

The Stockbridge Police Department has available to the general public, free of charge, firearm locks, that have been provided by Project Child Safe. If you would like a firearm lock, please call or stop by the police department for yours today.
